[EN] Trillion dollar Electron app industry
It’s only been a few years since we got generative AI, but the promises were wild then, just as they are now. While the COVID bubble popped and a lot of people got fired because they were useless, people love to attribute that to GPT, Claude, and Gemini. These are all made by companies that PROMISE you we will hit higher productivity, that you will not only be able to speed up your developers, but actually fire a bunch of them and have them replaced by fewer developers who do a better job.
Yet, one has to wonder: if all those promises are real, if models are so great and are creating C compilers and a bunch of other great stuff, and if devs are really that much better using it, how come the only thing those companies produced (other than benchmark-ready and preconfigured AI models) are the apps that use them, which were all created using Electron?
So, all that progress, all those promises, just so the creators of these models can shit out a barely functional Chrome browser modification that opens up a website.
Imagine being scared.
